Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group and Euan Sutherland, CEO of Kingfisher UK and B&Q have joined forces with the Prince of Wales’ new Start initiative by putting the finishing touches to insulating one lucky Londoners home.
This unique partnership aims to show us all how this simple DIY job will for most people be the best paid day’s work of their life.
Insulating your loft could actually save you around £150 per year on your annual energy bill* and can be done as a DIY job in a day. If you stay in the house for the next 5 years you could save up to £600 for one day’s work. If you earned that amount every working day you would be earning an annual salary of over £150,000.
The Prince of Wales’ new Start initiative has been created to help us all better understand the simple and effective things we can do to build a more sustainable future. Over the course of 2010 expect to see more unique collaborations, events, incentives and projects that will help breathe new life into this often misunderstood area.
B&Q has already started helping homeowners to go green with the introduction
of its One Planet Home range of eco products and has further plans to help
by introducing;
• Eco advice centres offering advice and support on eco and installed
services.
• Online eco advice at www.diy.com
• An army of qualified eco-advisors trained to NVQ level 2 standard.
Euan Sutherland CEO of B&Q and Kingfisher UK says; “Start at the
top and fit insulation in your loft – it’s the single most effective
thing people can do to green up their homes and save money.”
Sir Richard Branson said: "Start is a fantastic initiative. It will
help give people practical ideas on how to lead greener and more sustainable
lives. Making a difference doesn't have to be about grand gestures; if people
start to do these little things in their everyday lives it will have a big
impact. It should save money as well as help preserve our planet."
Virgin Money and B&Q are partners of the Start initiative, more information
can be found at www.startuk.org.
