AS THE NATION BASKS IN TROPICAL TEMPERATURES, SELFRIDGES UNVEILS ITS TOP
TEN CHRISTMAS TOY LIST FOR 2011
As the nation basks in one of hottest June's on record, Selfridges, the
world’s best department store looks ahead to winter, unveiling its
Top Ten Christmas Toy list for 2011.
Selfridges’ ‘trendsperts’ aim to add a touch of fun filled amusement to Britain with the launch of its top toy collection which will be available at stores in Birmingham, Manchester and London, and Selfridges.com from August 2011.
The Transformers Ultimate Optimus Prime (£79.99) is predicted to be Selfridges’ number one selling toy, with the brand continuing to entice both a younger audience through its cartoons and merchandise, and an older generation through this month’s release of Dark Of The Moon starring Glamour Woman Of The Year 2011, Rosie Huntington Whitely.
Technology related toys are set to swipe the toy charts this Christmas, with Selfridges devoting it’s largest ever investment to this category. Techno highlights include Disney’s Remote Control Lightning McQueen (£49.99) and Laser Stunt Chaser Stunt Car (£42.99).
Eco toys are also expected to be popular, with more consumers backing the trend for recycled and ‘make your own’ toys. Marbel’s Make Do Robot (£6.99) is number two on Selfridges’ list, which is a toy that can be both constructed and recycled.
Last year marked the big return to traditional toys, with sales of classic board games including Twister, Operation and Scrabble up by 20 per cent (2010 compared to 2009), with updated versions of family classics including Monopoly and Guess Who attracting a new fan base. Space themed toys also made a massive comeback, with Toy Story creating a frenzied demand for Buzz Lightyear. Last year’s surprise Christmas hit was the Electronic Star Wars Lightsaber.
