SELFRIDGES’ SALES OF FAKE TAN RISE BY 80 PER CENT AS UK PREDICTS A HEATWAVE THIS SUMMER.

Selfridges, home to the largest beauty hall in the world, reports 80 per cent uplift in sales of fake tan across all stores in advance of what papers report will be the UK's hottest summer since 1976.

With this summer's fashion trend of shorts and thigh high skirts, the black-tights-brigade are giving themselves more time to build up their colour before they pack away their hosiery. Fake-tan brands such as Fake Bake, Xen-Tan, Shiseido and St Tropez are being snapped up by shoppers as well as body scrubs by Bliss, Kiehl’s, Clarins and electronic hair removing gadgets by No! No!.

David Walker-Smith, Selfridges’ Buying Director of Beauty and Menswear says; “The predicted hot weather has definitely got Britain excited about getting their pins out sooner than expected! At Selfridges we know our customers like to look their best and we offer the best product and service range to make sure they do.”

This rise in sales has come slightly earlier compared to this time last year and is spear-headed by Manchester and Birmingham Selfridges stores, where one lead fake-tan brand is selling 56 per cent more stock in the regions compared to London.

Selfridges Manchester Exchange has responded to this demand by introducing a Xen-tan spray tan treatment, which provides an olive tan in ten minutes.
