The Jeju Aged Black Garlic, £5.49, exclusive to Selfridges
Every woman knows that a wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without the essential little black dress, and in the same vain, every kitchen cupboard should be stocked with this season’s ‘it’ ingredient – little black garlic – available exclusively at Selfridges, the UK’s leading department store.
The Jeju Aged Black Garlic from Korea is not only great for your health - with twice as many anti-oxidants as raw garlic – but it’s also not going to result in bad breath and garlic-smelling fingers – leaving you both kissable and healthy!
This exciting new super-food has a unique and distinctive sweet meets savoury vinegary flavour, with an almost dried fruit-like texture. Gaining its unique colour from its lengthy fermentation process, black garlic is aged for a month in clay containers with no additional ingredients – resulting in a mellower-tasting clove with ten times the antioxidants of raw garlic.
Over the years, Asian cuisine has incorporated this wonderful and complex ingredient into recipes, but only more recently has it become known within the UK, now used as a cooking ingredient or even eaten as a snack.
The Jeju Aged Black Garlic is available in Selfridges Food Hall, Oxford Street from this week – priced at £5.49 for two bulbs.
Selfridges’ Grocery Buyer, Tanya McMullen, commented: “Black garlic is now becoming the latest ‘it’ ingredient on restaurants menus. Now it’s available in the food hall, you’ll be able to cook up a winning meal for your loved one without the unpleasant odours which regular garlic leaves behind.”
