-TOO HOT TO HIDE -

The trend for ‘innerwear as outerwear’ continues to grow as sales of luxury sheer bodies and nipple covers soar at Selfridges

Selfridges, the UK’s leading department store reveals its female customers are no longer hiding their lingerie underneath clothing, as a soar in sales of luxury sheer bodies marks a 20 per cent increase in sales of nipple covers.

The trend for underwear worn as outerwear may not be new in the world of celebrity, as the likes of Lilly Allen and Rhianna step onto stage exposing more than just a jeweled navel. However thanks to designers including Stella McCartney and Damaris offering embellished sheer bodies that are too hot to hide, women have jumped on the ‘if you’ve got it flaunt it’ bandwagon and opted to bare all.

Selfridges’ most popular sheer bodies are Stella McCartney ‘Tilda’ playsuit £75, Dirty Pretty Things leopard ‘Vivienne’ body suit £125 and Damaris ‘Enticing’ grey soft bodice £99.

For those feeling ‘not-so-brave’, Selfridges has increased orders of nude nipple covers, available from £10 by Fashion Forums.

Helen Attwood, Selfridges Head Buyer for Lingerie said: “Underwear as outerwear isn’t a new phenomenon, however this spring designers such as Stella and Christian Dior are taking it to another level. Our customers are spending upwards of £250 on sheer bodies which they don’t want to keep hidden under clothes. Today’s ‘if you’ve got it flaunt it’ generation is proving that there is nothing like a peak of expensive lingerie to make a woman feel special.”
