Superdrug is getting ready to be the nation’s first port of call for false lashes and spooky make-up this Halloween – selling an estimated 50,000 pairs of false lashes during Halloween week. In recent years 31st October has become a firm fixture on the beauty calendar for Brits, male and female, to go a little crazy and try something different to achieve the goulish glam look, for instance gothic black nails, blood red lipstick or a sweep of dramatic lashes.
Sales of false lashes have almost doubled (+97 per cent) compared to this time last year – and this figure is increasing every week. Lashes are big business, Brits now spend over £10m a year on boosting their lashes with falsies. Peak weeks of the year, such as Christmas and Halloween, sees Superdrug sell two pairs of lashes every minute – in 2009 we have sold over 4,000 packs of lashes every day.
Ashvina Lockmun, Superdrug lashes buyer said, “This year Halloween
falls on a Saturday night meaning that there will be a lot of spooky parties
being planned. We predict we’ll sell more pairs of lashes on 31st
October than any other day in our 40 year history. Today’s easy to
apply lashes mean you can create a show stopping sweep of lashes in seconds.”
Superdrug best selling lashes are the designs from Girls Aloud, along with
Eylure Naturalites and Girls with Girls With Attitude Burlesque Beauty.
Superdrug’s tips for expert false lash application:
o Apply a liquid eyeliner along the false lash-line before applying lashes
to help hide the join and give the eye extra drama and definition
o The glue will dry transparently but use it sparingly, and always to the
false lash never on the lid
o Leave the glue to set for around 10 seconds after applying, this allows
it to dry a little and will stop the lash slipping on the lid and will give
a better overall fit. If you’re worried about using glue there are
lots of designs which are pre-glued and ready to use
o With a full strip of lashes always check they’re the right size
before applying them – a snip of 1mm at the end can make all the difference,
lashes that are too long can feel uncomfortable and are more likely to fall
off!
o When applying a strip of lashes always centre the lash on the middle of
the lash-line and then press out from the middle to the ends, this should
ensure the lash sits centrally
o If in doubt use individual lashes and apply one by one, more thickly at
the outer corners to the middle of the lid
