Alexander McQueen Dame dress £16,000, exclusively at Selfridges
As the nation basks in the hottest July on record, Selfridges, the UK’s leading department store looks ahead to winter, adding a touch of slapstick humour to Britain with the launch of its Panto themed Christmas collection.
‘A Cracking Christmas’, unveiled today at the retailer’s Oxford Street store is themed on British Pantomime, some 200 years after Cinderella – Britain’s oldest Panto - was first performed at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Selfridges’ buyers and trendsetters have collaborated with iconic British designers Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood who have each created an exclusive Dame dress in celebration of this British theatrical phenomenon.
The dresses will sell for £16,000 each and spearhead an exclusive Pantomime themed collection spanning fashion, beauty, food and home at Selfridges’ stores in Birmingham, London and Manchester.
Fairy godmothers will be available in store to explain the meaning of British Pantomime to overseas customers.
