Sales of super luxury Blackberrys and mobile phones are up by 40 per cent at Selfridges

Limited Edition Blackberry £1,000 and Vertu phone £5,000, exclusive to Selfridges in celebration of its centenary

Selfridges, the UK’s leading department store says, ‘the phone is where the heart is’ as sales of super luxury communication devices soar by 40 per cent.

Sales of Vertu phones, as seen nestled into the necks of celebrities including Victoria Beckham and Madonna are up by 40 per cent on the year. Prices start from £3,500 for the luxury British mobile phone brand’s stainless steel signature phone and soar to £75,000 for Vertu’s snake design ‘Boucheron’, embellished with diamonds and rubies. All phones offer Vertu’s famous concierge service and international key board options.

Ten limited edition yellow Blackberrys, produced exclusively for Selfridges’ centenary sold within hours of hitting the shop floor at £1,000 each.

James Servini, Selfridges Accessories Buying Manager said: “The top of the market is certainly resilient and showing no sign of weakness. Customers are still prepared to pay for unique products that hold their value.”
