BLONDES MAY HAVE MORE FUN…
BUT BRUNETTES GET AHEAD IN THE WORK PLACE

A third of blondes have dyed their hair darker recently in a bid to be taken more seriously at work, according to a new study by Superdrug.

The survey of over 2,500 women found that more than 31 per cent of those with light hair have darkened their locks to appear more intelligent in the workplace, with 62 per cent thinking that brunettes look more professional than blondes.

Thirty-eight per cent of fair-haired women even think their hair colour has held them back in the career in the past.

And the change has paid off as since dying their hair darker, 38 per cent reckon they have been taken more seriously by their boss. Almost a quarter (23%) have even been given a promotion.

Dan Hadley, Superdrug hair colourant buyer said: “The current economic climate is obviously making women take more care with their appearance at work, even down to their hair colour. The study shows brunettes do seem to be taken more seriously in the work place which is causing a rise in fair headed women darkening their locks.

“It’s incredible how changing your hair colour can alter people’s perception of you as well as making you feel more confident too. And altering the shade of your hair needn’t cost the earth or take too much time, our best selling products are our own label colourant costing just £3.22 and Perfect 10, a new formulation designed to dye hair in just ten minutes.”

Superdrug sales reflect the research with six out of every ten packs sold in darker brunette shades. Superdrug is number in the hair colourant market and sells more than 15 million packs a year.
