Rise of male grooming. . .
Selfridges is set to further tap into the growing £700 million male
grooming market with the exclusive launch of Gentlemen's Tonic; a men only
salon/spa environment opening in November 2008.
Situated in London’s vibrant and most visited department store, Gentlemen’s Tonic is a respected male haven catering for every man’s grooming needs and has been brought into the department store environment at Selfridges to allow clients and shoppers access to a one-stop-shop for style.
Word has spread and as a result with only one week until opening Gentlemen’s Tonic at Selfridges has been inundated with appointment requests and is now fully booked for the first four days of trading.
Selfridges has experienced a strong growth in male cosmetics over the past five years, with men increasingly willing to be seen to take care of their appearance. This growth has been mirrored with the success of YSL’s male grooming products launched exclusively in September at Selfridges. All the grooming products, including the Touche Éclat for Men, outsold expectations and sales in this area continue to grow.
According to Mintel the UK male grooming market is currently worth around £700m annually and it is predicted this will rise to over £820m by 2009. The introduction of a male only salon/spa pays attention to these statistics and provides a one-stop solution to every man’s lifestyle requirements in one place.
David Walker Smith, Selfridges’ Director for Beauty says; “Male grooming is a massive growth market and Selfridges is at the forefront of this trend. Now our male customers can buy a work shirt, a new pair of shoes and have a wet-shave and shoulder massage at the same time, all under one roof. Selfridges truly is the ultimate, all encompassing, destination for men.”
